DOES anyone in Oxford have a grandparent or great-grandparent related to the Hampshire and England cricketer, George Brown?
There are many great tales about George and I am writing a book about him.
He was born in Oxford in 1887 and lived at 55 Crescent Road in Temple Cowley as a child, with nine brothers and sisters – Maria, Harry, Fred, Joe, Eliza, Emily, Sarah, Charles and William.
George left home in 1906 when he walked to Southampton for a trial with Hampshire. I am interested in what became of his family.
If any of your readers know anything about the Brown family, I would be pleased to hear from them at ljmw@btinternet.com or by letter to Memory Lane.
