Angela Jay, one of the Sun newspaper’s page three girls, cheered everyone up when she dropped in at Didcot Fire Station.
But there was a serious purpose for her visit in 1977. Two firemen had died in a fire in Reading and firemen everywhere launched a fund to help their families.
Wellwishers had given more than 80 prizes for a raffle and the newspaper sent Miss Jay to pick the winners. She is seen with firemen Lawrence Didcock, left, and Maurice Sealey.
