WHILE preparing for a move, I came across this picture, above, of Falcons football team, the Morrells Sunday League Division 1 champions from the late 1980s.

The manager was Andy Lyne who has gone on to manage many local clubs.

Other players include Colin Fleet (Oxford City), Paul Bradbury (Oxford United and Oxford City) and the legend of local football, Duncan Barney, who played for Oxford City under Bobby Moore when only 17.

Falcons were members of the league for many years until they folded in the mid-1990s. Their tours were legendary as were the after-game socials at the Nuffield Arms in Bartholomew Road, Cowley, which has sadly also closed.
