JIM Barron was not usually seen in suit and tie – his usual gear was a football jersey and football boots.

But on this occasion, in 1969, the Oxford United goalkeeper, centre, was off duty and had been invited to open a new discotheque at Minchery Farm, Oxford.

The engagement obviously called for the more formal wear of suit and tie.

The player, a favourite with Oxford United fans for several seasons, is pictured with the discotheque manager, Ken Turner, and Christine Stuart, 19, one of the hostesses.
