THEY are all smiles now, but soon they would be going into battle.
The Aunt Sally teams from the Littlemore Royal British Legion, on the left, and their near neighbours at the George, on the right, would face each other in a top-of-the-table clash.
They were the two top teams at the time, in 1980, and both were keen to maintain their good form.
On this occasion, however, the Legion, led by Colin Whittaker, left, made a clean sweep, beating Mick Beane’s team from the George 2-0 and following it up by winning the traditional beer keg.
So the George paid for the beer...
