THESE three “jolly young ladies” cheered up customers at the Witney branch of Woolworth’s.
Hilda Scaife, Olive Miller and Gladys Whitehead (left to right) retired together in April 1976.
A farewell party was held in the village hall at North Leigh, where they were presented with cheques from the management and jewellery from colleagues.
Mrs Scaife, of Windmill Road, North Leigh, had worked at the store for 19 years, starting as the “biscuit girl” and then serving on the sweet counter.
Mrs Miller, of Apley Way, Witney, had worked on the gardening counter for 15 years. Mrs Whitehead, of Burwell Drive, Witney, had been a store assistant for five years.
Mrs Scaife said: “I’ve got such nice customers – I’m going to miss them so much.”
