The village athletic club rebuilt its clubhouse at a cost of £40,000 after it was destroyed by fire in 1986. - The barrel race
Village peace was shattered in 1980 with a barrel race through the streets. Among the winners were Jean Williams, Eona McDougall, Carol Bryan and Lynn Moylan, who won bottles of Champagne after easily beating the opposition.
