Hot dogs sold like hot cakes on a stall run by Penny and Sarah Gordon at the church fete in 1971. The event, held at Parsonage Farm, and a disco evening at the village hall raised £220 towards church repairs.
- Schoolchildren sent a parcel with pens, pencils, rubbers and elastic bands to pupils at a primary school in The Gambia in 1985 – and that brought them together as penfriends. Parent Sue Lay, who helped raise money for the stationery, is pictured with, left to right, Christian Trinder, Paul Brooke-Taylor, Samantha Way and Zoe Kerbey and a thank-you letter from Africa.
- Kathy Oliver was brave enough to ride through the village streets as Lady Godiva in 1968 to entice people to part with their money. The idea was to boost the Hagbourne Over-65s’ funds.
