WOMEN licensees were given a night off from serving behind the bar to attend a ball.
Members of the women’s auxiliary are pictured at Culham College in 1963 with Mr P Goodwin, president of the North Berkshire Licensed Victuallers’ Protection Association.
The ball, the proceeds of which went to charity, included an auction of a huge basket of flowers and a competition for a record player and other prizes.
The ball was organised by a committee headed by Mrs M Clarke, chairman and secretary of the auxiliary, Mrs V Godfrey, treasurer, and Mrs G Sainsbury, vice-chairman.
