DISCOUNT chain Poundland looks set to open in Bicester but no site has been announced.

The chain said it is hoping to open a store before Christmas but its plans to move to the town are yet to be finalised.

But according to the Poundland website it is looking to recruit an assistant store manager. In a statement, it said: “Poundland is currently considering the acquisition of new stores to add to those already opened this year.”

The stringent acquisition process ensures the new stores are positioned in the right location and fit Poundland’s customer profile.

It said: “Due to the popularity of our product ranges, we are keen not to raise anticipation for a new store before plans are finalised.”

It said further information could not be disclosed until details were confirmed.

Bicester would be the fourth store the chain has in the county, as the group already has stores in Oxford, Abingdon and Banbury.

The firm say it serves more than 4.5m customers a week selling products including food and drink, health and beauty, and DIY.
