FAMILIES were treated to a reading by author David Benedictus at Cokethorpe School near Witney.

The author of Hundred Acre Wood, which is the first authorised sequel to the original A A Milne stories, is the writer-in-residence at the school.

During the reading last week, he explained his decision to introduce a new character to the series, Lottie the Otter, and took questions from children and parents.

His residency at the school will culminate later this year with an anthology of pupils’ work.

Cokethorpe English teacher Ewan Monaghan said: “We have been delighted and honoured that a major literary figure like David Benedictus has been able to join Cokethorpe School for our first writer-in-residency project.

“His experience in writing children’s fiction has really helped unlock the magic of words for our pupils and we have been thrilled with the creative work they have undertaken with him.”
