GINA Spillane’s letter (ViewPoints, October 4) regarding the scrapping of planning permission for domestic extensions, especially fits the whole of Oxford, east of the rivers Thames and Cherwell.

East Oxford is a case in point. The particular population profile encourages the development of ghettos and slums.

I had hoped for a “Broad Church” approach with the arrival of the Lib-Con administration. It was misplaced charity on my part.

The only hope of softening PM David Cameron’s intention is for Parliament to resist the move. but no doubt a Conservative three-line whip could ensure the policy if the Lib Dems go along with them.

With any luck the “little” men in the next General Election will oust the Conservatives, but the damage will have been done.

No doubt this Lib-Con administration will make sure superfluous planners will be made redundant and even if the Lib-Con administration is thrown out at the next election there will be an inevitable delay in replacing planners and the policy will continue. There is a vicious selfishness in this administration which I had not envisaged at the last election. Cameron and his cohorts are short- sighted.
