Sir – Sushila Dhall (Letters, September 27) raised concern about the faint cycle lane lines in St Giles.
I do not know how many times requests for repainting these particular lines have been made. However, from my own experience trying to get demarcation lines on pavements between pedestrians and cyclists repainted, I have a suspicion that it is county council policy to let them fade away.
Despite numerous requests, backed by local councillors, over a period of at least two years, it has not been possible to persuade the county council to repaint the lines on the corner of Woodstock Road and First Turn where pedestrians are in constant danger from cyclists coming round the corner. The lines are now so faint that most cyclists do not notice them.
There are also lane markings on pavements on the east side of Woodstock Road and on the northern part of the west side of Banbury Road, south of the Cutteslowe roundabout, which are now fading away despite many requests for repainting them.
Perhaps the county council would come clean about its policy on pavement cycle lanes.
