A 14-YEAR-OLD boy yesterday told how he saw teenager Haydan O’Callaghan stab musician Aaron Buron to death.

The youngster gave evidence via video link at Oxford Crown Court on the second day of the Rose Hill murder trial yesterday.

O’Callaghan, of Saunders Road, East Oxford, has admitted killing 29-year-old Mr Buron on March 31 in St Martin’s Road, but denies murder, saying he did not mean to do it.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, said the 18-year-old attacked Mr Buron when he tried to intervene in a fight between O’Callaghan and his girlfriend.

The group – including three other teenage boys – had been gathered in Mr Buron’s girlfriend Lisa Harris’s home when O’Callaghan assaulted his girlfriend Latasha Peck at about 11pm.

And O’Callaghan bit a “chunk” out of Mr Buron’s arm when he got him in a headlock, the youngster said.

He added Mr Buron then went into the street and took a piece of wood for protection.

But O’Callaghan grabbed a knife from the kitchen, the boy said, chased after him and stabbed him in the arm, the leg, and then the ribs.

In a police interview shown to the court, the boy said: “Haydan ran towards Aaron and Aaron hit him with a stick, and then Haydan stabbed him in the arm and then the leg.”

He said O’Callaghan stabbed Mr Buron in the ribs as he fell to the floor, before running off leaving the knife sticking out of his chest.

He added: “It all happened so quick.”

The teen said the weapon had a black handle and a 15-20cm blade.

He also said O’Callaghan was “proper drunk” when he and friends gathered at Miss Harris’ house at about 9.45pm, adding: “I thought he was going to pass out.”

O’Callaghan and Miss Peck had started arguing in the bathroom, the court heard.

The boy said: “They came out the bathroom and then Haydan punched her in the kitchen. He threw her on the sofa and started biting her head.”

He said O’Callaghan had initiated the violence. He said: “He started it basically. He started on his girlfriend and everyone tried to stop him.

“He was telling her to go and she didn’t want to go and he started hitting her.”

He added: “He was angry at everyone. He kicked off.”

O’Callaghan’s pregnant mother Leeann O’Callaghan gave evidence yesterday afternoon.

She said there had been nothing unusual about her son and girlfriend’s behaviour when he returned to her Saunders Road home later that night.

She added: “They seemed normal – talking, cuddling.”

The trial continues and today the court is expected to hear evidence from Miss Peck and a pathologist.
