Sir – I agree with Roger Keable (Gazette Letters, September 19) about the state of the pavements in Witney, but also the poor condition of paths and the cycle tracks in the surrounding areas.

My son, who is classed as partially sighted, injured his knee when he fell off his bicycle in Burford Road, travelling to work at Worsham Mill, partly due to the poor condition of the cycle track, which is overgrown with weeds and the nearby trees hang low, impairing my son’s visibility. As a result of the injury, he has been absent from work.

The Burford Road route to Worsham Mill is used by many cyclists who work at the mill factory.

Many have expressed their concern at the general condition of the cycle track which is their preferred route due to Burford Road’s dangerously heavy traffic.

Moreover, as a route to Burford and a gateway to the Cotswolds, and in light of the Government’s cycle to work schemes, something should be done to maintain and improve the track and encourage cycling.
