IS IT any wonder that there is truth in the saying ‘Never believe what you read in the papers’?
In the Oxford Mail on Saturday, September 29, I read on the front page and page two, of the ridiculous decision by the city council to build even more student accommodation, this time on St Clement’s car park, despite long, lengthy and justified protests by people living nearby and local businesses saying it would harm their trade.
On page five of the same edition I read that the same city council has cancelled the Christmas Market, due to be held in Broad Street this year. Why? Because local businesses protested that it would harm their trade!
Does the right hand really know what the left hand is doing in our Town Hall?
It really does seem that the council makes one unpopular decision after another with little regard to what the people who elect them want and ask for.
Maybe we all get what we deserve – so is it time to get out and put that cross in the right place next time round?
