I CANNOT help but smile every time I read in the Oxford Mail about the latest money-making schemes our councillors dream up, especially Oxford city councillors’ projects.

We have the closure of Temple Cowley pool, which it would appear very few people support, apart from councillors.

Now we have the granting of planning permission for St Clement’s car park, which again very few people support.

I was always led to believe that people standing for election into public service did so to represent the people and do their best for them but that is clearly not the case.

Most of those elected are only playing games with and wasting taxpayers’ money and, as with the Labour-controlled city council, when money becomes short they just sell off the family silver (council assets) to compensate, just as the last Labour Government did. I think we all know what Mr Tanner and Mr Cook, for example, would say if and when the county council does the same thing.

Elections and voting come down to who can be trusted and who cannot be trusted, and then they wonder why so many people do not bother voting – or could that be what they really want? The fewer people voting, the fewer people they need to brainwash!
