Sir — Change within Oxford is more often than not greeted with howls of derision and the subsequent formation of a preservation and protest society, so I thought I’d better express my pleasure with the new format of The Oxford Times to add balance to the numerous moans that I’m sure you will receive.

The new weekend section is definitely a vast improvement whereas the main paper felt brighter and more colourful with what felt like a greater emphasis on including photographs.

The ability to easily separate the property section will be a blessing to rabbit hutches and hamster cages across the county and I was very pleased to have a much overdue injection of fresh writing into the paper (Quad talk and Michelle Dickson especially). To wrap it all off, Chris Gray received a good kicking from Sandi Toksvig in the letters page — delightful! Overall, I’m happy to live with the hefty price hike provided the quality does not slip but I did have two queries about the new format:

1: Is there an Android app for the paper in the pipeline

2: What was the thinking behind putting the planner section next to the obituaries and not on the back cover or inside back cover of the Weekend section? Weekend seems a much more logical place for it.

Anyway, I look forward to reading the heated comments in the expanded letters section of the next edition. The anniversary reproduction was also an interesting addition — some features from the paper 150 years ago I would have rather retained over the years, such as weekly updates into the price of cheese in the city; but then again some people are never happy with change.

An Android app is in development to back up the successful Apple app and The Oxford Times will also be available on the Kindle Fire in time for its UK launch on October 25. We are grateful for the suggestion about the positioning of the listings page. We welcome all feedback, negative and positive, on the new-look paper and will take all remarks into consideration as we continue to develop the paper — Editor
