Sir – Your article about Wilderness Festival last week failed to point out that Wilderness at Cornbury Park provides huge benefits to our local communities and we are proud to have such a vibrant arts and outdoors festival on our doorsteps.
Wilderness organisers have welcomed us with open arms, inviting us to take part and crucially to raise money for essential projects.
This year, Charlbury and Finstock Schools joined forces to run a tea tent — funds raised at last year’s Wilderness have helped pay for a much-needed refurbishment at Charlbury Primary School and funded a member of staff at Finstock School. Charlbury Pre-School ran a pig roast and last year raised significant funds which helped refurbish the play area. Chadlington School ran a stall for the first time this year, raising money to modernise ICT equipment. ROSY (Respite Care for Oxfordshire’s Sick Youngsters) raised funds and profile; and a donation was given by the festival goers to the Charlbury Community Centre Appeal. In today’s climate these funds are a lifeline and it would be devastating if constraints imposed on Wilderness rendered it unviable.
