Sir – It is almost never the case that votes in planning committees are split along party political lines. Parallel universe or not, this in itself should be enough to reassure Hugh McManners (Letters, September 6) and your readers that planning decisions are not party-political in this city.
And for the record, the St Clements application was called in by a group comprising fully 25 per cent of the full council, only two of them members of the west area planning committee.
Our Green, Liberal Democrat, and Labour colleagues on the planning review committee, who will now finally determine the application, will do so in line with the principles and realities of non-party-political administration.
Oscar Van Nooijen Chairman, west area planning committee
Graham Jones, Ward councillor, St Clements
