Sir – I recently visited the Neuroscience In-Patients department at the John Radcliffe Hospital as arranged by my GP because I had developed worrying symptoms which had affected my vision. I was seen very soon after arriving at 9.30am and did not leave until approximately 5pm.

During this time I was seen by three doctors and had various tests, scans and blood tests, all of which were carried out quickly and efficiently. At no time was I not kept informed as the nursing staff were constantly checking on the progress of my treatment.

I was extremely impressed with the professionalism, compassion and commitment in all the personnel who treated me, doctors and nurses alike.

A worrying day was made much easier thanks to their proficiency. At a time when many are knocking the health service, I applaud them.
