HUNDREDS of Olympics-inspired competitors took part in an amateur triathlon.
Sunday’s event at Carterton Leisure Centre saw 200 people tackle 16 lengths followed by a 24km bike ride and a 5km run.
Organiser Sam Isherwood said: “The idea is really to motivate local people into trying triathlon.
“We also encourage relay teams for people who perhaps aren’t as strong on some events and we got some really fast times.”
Alistair Brownlee scooped gold while brother Jonathan won bronze at London 2012.
Mrs Isherwood said: “With our gold and bronze in the Olympics we have seen a lot more people having a go and not worrying about their times, which is great.”
She added: “It was really successful and everyone seemed to beat their time estimations.”
The event was won by Stuart Tipton in 1:07:03. The first woman to cross the finishing line was Claire Vallance in 1:14:08.
