WHAT happened to the romance of the Olympic torch?

I understood the torch starts in Greece, is transported to wherever the Games are being held and, this time, is taken around by relay and ending up at the Olympic Stadium.

Where is the torch which came from Greece? Has it also been in the relay along with all the other torches? Will it be on display while the Games are on?

It seems everyone in the relay team across the country has their own. Eventually, no doubt, a good many will end up on eBay.

The highlight for me in this area was seeing Sir Roger Bannister holding a torch at Iffley Road.

The real torch would have been more befitting for such a great athlete.

It was good to see so many people across the country enthusing and supporting each area’s relay team.

It will be a great boost for those taking part in the Games. However, it seems to me that when the romance has gone, the original concept is meaningless.
