TWO Oxfordshire teenagers have taken their education campaign to the heart of the Government.

Alex Cotter and Bobo Kalungu- Banda, both 15, were part of a 12-strong group of students who lobbied Stephen O’Brien, the Minister for International Development, over a pledge by world leaders to get every child in school by 2015.

The pair travelled to London for the Question Time-style event at the Department of International Development.

Alex and Bobo, who are pupils at Banbury’s Blessed George Napier School,  were chosen as young ambassadors for the Global Campaign for Education.

Bobo said: “I’m from Africa. My dad, through a scholarship, got a chance to come here for his education.

“Now we want everyone to have the opportunity of a good education.”
The Global Campaign for Education is a coalition of activists, teachers’ unions and development organisations, aimed at ensuring all children get an education.

In 2000, world leaders promised that every child would receive a quality education by 2015.

But while improvements were made, with 50 million more youngsters going to school, in the past two years supporters say the programme has stalled.
