IT sounds like sour grapes from Mr Paul Spearman.

Boo hoo, the Olympic Torch misses Banbury.

It is obvious that those involved routing the torch throughout the UK realised that Blackbird Leys would welcome the event with open arms, which, of course, it did.

Residents flocked to see the procession as it wound its way from BMW through the estate.

Parties went on along the way: residents cheered and enjoyed what they saw.

It’s a pity that some, Mr Spearman, still threw up what happened over a decade ago.

Maybe he was involved as a spectator.

Residents here have moved on. Mr Spearman should do the same. Does he not remember there was a 200-strong riot in the Market Place in 1988, which was quickly brought under control by the police?

Oxford city was also missed out on the torch procession.

Blackbird Leys is a pleasant place to live.

I’ve been here for more than 51 years and, yes, it has had its problems, but so has Banbury and any other large areas in this country.

If you have any complaint, Mr Spearman, write to the organizers like Lord Coe, instead of venting anger at those who took pride in cheering the procession through Blackbird Leys.
