THE pictures of two brides-to-be receiving wedding gifts from colleagues at Nuffield Press at Cowley had an unexpected link.
The first (Memory Lane, January 23) showed Audrey Preece, pictured, being presented with a set of blankets as her wedding to Billy Higgins approached. Now Mrs Higgins has written in to tell us about the picture of the second presentation, pictured (Memory Lane, May 21).
She tells me: “The woman in that photograph is Joy Bargus, who happened to be my bridesmaid and was about to marry Johnny White.
“Joy was a good friend of mine and we worked at Nuffield Press.
“Joy first met her husband-to-be at my house. Johnny was my brother Bob’s best friend.”
As we recalled, the Press was founded in 1925 by William Morris, later Lord Nuffield, to produce publicity material for his Cowley-built cars.
