Damp weather didn’t stop hundreds from gathering for Yeah Baby!

James Phillpott set up the annual festival three years ago to raise money for Oxford Children’s Hospital after a friend’s son was treated there. But last year his own daughter Amber died at the age of 18 months from a rare form of leukaemia and he decided to remember her at this year’s event.

So far £50,000 has been raised in the tot’s name and people gathered in Abingdon market place on Saturday to enjoy live music, food and children’s activities.

Money will go to the hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Helen & Douglas House hospice and the Amber Phillpott Trust, which Mr Phillpott and partner Fleur Tinson set up after their daughter’s death in March 2011.

Among those at the event was Wantage man Flo Stoermer, 34, who crossed the finishing line of a 38-mile ultra-marathon: “It went well, thanks to my support which came from all over England.

“It was tough going, lots of falls and trips and slips, but very good.

“When I heard what the family had gone through with Amber and what they’re doing to keep her name alive, I wanted to help them and raise awareness.”

He has raised about £2,100 for the cause, and organisers are still counting up Saturday’s collection.
