THE town’s Council of Churches set up a Help the Aged collection point at the Methodist Hall in West Street in 1981 for old blankets and clothing to help people in under-developed countries.
Over two days, 495 sacks were filled. Helper Freda Dumble, pictured immediately above, said the response had been very encouraging.
Chipping Norton Swifts under-11 team had a successful season in 1978-9, winning the Wootton and District Football League Cup. They were also runners-up in the league and beaten finalists in the knockout cup.
Chipping Norton Round Table took delivery of a second minibus in 1978, to provide transport for youth groups, sports clubs and old people’s organisations.
