In regard to Kath Mulligan’s letter (Oxford Mail, July 6) and the compulsory micro-chipping that would identify the owners of aggressive dogs. I question how useful that would be. The police and dog wardens are already aware of owners of aggressive dogs and they do take attacks seriously, unfortunately their powers are limited.
Until the Dangerous Dogs Act is changed and so-called ‘dog-on-dog’ attacks are taken into consideration and police and dog wardens are given more power, the problem will grow.
At the moment irresponsible dog owners know that it is very unlikely that action will be taken against them, so why should they bother?
