I feel the need to bring the Olympic torch saga up on behalf of all the people that live in any other part of the city or county.
Why did the Olympic Torch have to go to Blackbird Leys? What is so great about this part of the city?
Its only claim to fame was the joyriders in the late ‘80s, early ‘90s.
The torch came to Oxfordshire, visited Bicester, Kirtlington, Woodstock, Oxford, Blackbird Leys, Abingdon and Wallingford.
What happened to the biggest town in Oxfordshire, Banbury?
It was missed out, maybe so Blackbird Leys could have it.
We have been told that no-one in the country would be more then 10 miles away from the Olympic Torch route.
But, guess what, Banbury to Bicester is about 15 miles and about the same to Kirtlington, but all those poor old, hard-done-by people at Blackbird Leys, I guess South Park is just too far for you to travel to.
Anyone living in North Oxfordshire would have to travel to see the torch.
But that’s OK, we don’t all complain like the people of Blackbird Leys if things don’t go our way.
