ACTOR Jonathan Oliver, who plays money lender Shylock, is hoping a new production of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice will make lots of cash.
The Creation Theatre Company is staging the play at the Said Business School’s open-air amphitheatre until September 1. If it rains, actors have the option of moving the drama — and the audience — indoors.
Mr Oliver said: “Everyone has heard of Shylock and his pound of flesh and our show takes on themes of greed, pride and honour.
“It’s not all serious though — we’ve got lovers, picnics and ukuleles.”
The show, featuring live music, is directed by Natalie Abrahmi and aims to capture the spirit of pre-war Italy. Performances start at 7.30pm.
