A woman stabbed to death in a Bristol street is believed to have travelled to the city from Oxford.

Judith Ege, 58, was a special needs teacher on a visit to the city with her stepdaughter on Saturday.

In a statement, relatives said Ms Ege was a talented teacher who had recently been persuaded to come out of retirement.

It said: "Judy touched the lives of everyone she met and left them feeling they were a better person for having met her.

"A gifted and talented special needs teacher, she taught those children the rest of society had often written off. All of her working life was spent developing children with complex special needs.”

Ms Ege was stabbed just before midday on Saturday and died of her injuries shortly afterwards. Ministry of Defence employee Barach Bandavad, who has been charged with murdering the 58-year-old, was the former partner of Ms Ege's stepdaughter.

Bandavad, 38, of Highbury Road, Horfield, has appeared in Bristol Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody.
