A tip-off from an Oxford Mail reporter led to an ex-councillor being convicted for possessing thousands of pornographic images of children.

Reporter Oliver Evans contacted police when he worked for the Bucks Free Press after being alerted to a Facebook page displaying an inappropriate image of a child, on which former Wycombe councillor Bob Bate left a comment.

Police raided Bate’s former Hazlemere home in May last year and found the images. Bate was sentenced to three years in prison at Amersham law courts last Friday after admitting 27 charges relating to possession and distribution of the images, as well as possessing animal pornography.
