Researchers in Oxford want to develop a vaccine against the brain disease meningitis by inserting part of the bacterium inside a version of the cold virus.
The project is being funded by a £148,052 grant from children’s charity Action Medical Research.
Infection by the meningococcus B strain is a leading cause of meningitis and septicaemia in the UK and no vaccine has yet been approved to protect children from it.
