A WOOD Farm man was found hanged from a tree in Shotover Country Park, an inquest heard.
Adrian Fisher, from Wood Farm Road, was 46 when he was found dead on the morning of Thursday, December 15, 2011.
The inquest at Old County Hall, Oxford, heard he had previously been seen by his GP for mental health problems and had been treated at a rehabilitation centre in 2002.
Mandy Coppock, from Bampton Road, found Mr Fisher’s body as she took her dogs for a walk. She said in evidence to the inquest: “I didn’t recognise it as a body because my view was obscured.
“I then got close enough to see what it was.
“We called 999.”
His mother, Christine Fisher, had called the police the previous night to report him missing after he failed to turn up to her home in Canterbury to attend his grandmother’s funeral.
Mr Fisher had been due to travel to Kent the day before and had told his mother he was on his way. But her efforts to contact him when she became concerned at his absnece proved futile.
Oxfordshire Coroner Nicholas Gardiner recorded a verdict that Mr Fisher took his own life.
He said: “It seems that he was living a mentally rather precarious existance and it is possible the death of his grandmother may have tipped him over the edge.
“Perhaps the thought of going to her funeral was more than he could cope with.”
