Sir – Whatever the unfavourable traffic circumstances, Dagmara Platuska (Letters, June 28) is wrong to suppose that cycling on the pavement is one of the ‘rights of cyclists’, and that upholding the law by the police can be described as ‘persecution’.
Polarising the cyclists v. pedestrians v. cars debate does not help. As a daily cyclist, I regularly encounter consideration from ‘bullying’ motorists, appalling behaviour by cyclists, not to mention suicidal road-crossing by pedestrians (this latter is what really freaks me out!).
We’re all guilty of doing stupid things on the road at some point or other, so let’s keep a sense of proportion in this debate!
