Hannah England could not hide her joy after learning she will be going to London 2012.

But it was heartbreak for Hatti Archer, who missed out on a place in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Oxford City 1,500m runner England was named in Britain’s team for the Olympics, despite missing the trials with an Achilles injury.

Former Radley athlete Archer will not compete in the 3,000m steeplechase after failing to get the nod from the selectors. She plans to appeal.

England, the 2011 world silver medallist, was named alongside Laura Weightman and Lisa Dobriskey in the 1,500m ranks.

She ran the A standard qualifying time when clocking 4mins 4.05secs to win her event at May’s Fanny Blankers-Koen Games, but was ‘spiked’ in doing so.

The 25-year-old tweeted: “Thank you for all the congratulations :) Incredibly excited to become an Olympian. But feeling for those who have missed out.”

Making the grade was particularly sweet for England, who was unlucky to miss out on selection for the Beijing Olympics.

She posted on her facebook fan page: “Soooo, I just got selected to run the 1,500m at the Olympics! :) “It’s been a tough month coping with my injury and I’d like to say thanks to everyone who has helped me through this and all the other steps over the years.”

Archer finished second in the trials, but her season’s best time of 9mins 57.00secs was 14 seconds off the A standard to qualify.

Oxfordshire 110m hurdler Law-rence Clarke was confirmed in the team last week after finishing second in the trials, while Oxford marathon runner Mara Yamauchi was selected in December.

Oxford City triple jumper Nathan Douglas missed out with an injured hamstring.
