THAMES Valley’s police and crime commissioner (PCC) will get between £3m and £5m to fund victims’ support services.
The new cash will be raised by increasing fines and fixed penalty notices across the country, including Oxfordshire.
The Home Office, which announced the plans on Monday, hopes it will create a £50m pot nationally.
PCCs will be democratically elected in November and will oversee chief constables and set priorities and budgets for the force.
They will be able to use the new cash to commission support services to help victims cope with and recover from crimes.
Under the new plans, victims surcharges – currently a flat £15 for every crime – will be changed to 10 per cent of fines.
The number of people that pay the surcharges will be increased to include those given conditionall discharges or community sentences.
Fixed penalty notices will be raised by £10.
