TEENAGERS took to the catwalk in outfits they had made themselves from recycled materials.

The Great Green Garment Gala was one of the many activities held at St Gregory the Great School, Cricket Road, Oxford, for its environment day yesterday.

Lakisha Marshall, far left, 14, from Blackbird Leys, created a green dress made out of paper and feathers. She said: “I think it’s really good because we need to start using stuff we have already used.”

Aoife Griffin, 14, from Sandford, modelled a black and white dress she created.

She said: “I think it looked good. I think it’s a good thing to do because it’s all about recycling.”

Lois Wilkins, 14, from Cowley, looked to the 80s for her inspiration, creating a dress with huge shoulderpads hung with strands of wallpaper.

She said: “It was a bit embarrassing wearing it, but it was fun making it.”

Other activities during the day included using bicycle-powered blenders to make smoothies and an advertising campaign on ethical supermarkets.
