A FUNDRAISER has won an award after collecting more than £6,800 for a parents charity.

Nicky Brock, from the Abingdon branch of the National Childbirth Trust (NCT), has organised regular Nearly New Sales in the town for the last three years. In the last year alone she collected more than £6,800.

And she was presented with the ‘Fundraising Success of the Year’ NCT Star award on Sunday at a ceremony in Maidenhead.

The town’s Nearly New Sales feature almost 100 sellers and 60 volunteers and the last sale saw takings break the £10,000 mark for the first time.

Ms Brock was also praised for her ability to recruit and manage volunteers.

She will now join the shortlist for the national NCT Stars Awards along with winners from the other regions.

The national awards will be presented at a special event at the House of Lords in October.

Miriam Blazey, NCT regional coordinator for the south central region, said: “All our volunteers make a difference, helping us to support more parents than ever. The NCT Stars Awards are a wonderful opportunity for us to thank them and celebrate some of their greatest achievements.”
