igures recorded by researchers at the Radcliffe Meteorological Station at Green Templeton College in Woodstock Road, make it the wettest June since 1852 – when 193mm of rain were recorded – and the second wettest since records began in 1767.

Oxford University School of Geography and Environment development officer Ian Curtis, with records for June 1852, said: “Research has shown that 349.2mm of rain fell in the three months from April until June.

“It has definitely been a wet few months, breaking records for the amount of rainfall.”

Weather researchers earlier this year said the city had experienced the wettest April since rainfall data was first collected in 1767.

Their data showed that 142mm fell in Oxford in April, three times more than usual.
