Del Boy once tried to make a tidy little profit from a church roof in an episode of TV favourite Only Fools and Horses.

But he showed his caring side by helping out at Launton village fete on Saturday.

Del Boy impersonator, played by Ian McIlrath, pictured with vicar Becky Mathew, officially opened the fete to raise cash for the village’s St Mary’s Church after it was targeted twice by lead thieves in May.

Attractions at the fete, held in the village sports and social club grounds off Bicester Road, included stalls and traditional games.

There was also a martial arts performance, as demonstrated by eight-year-old Liam Gamble, inset top, a dog show and street dance display by a group based at the Courtyard, in Bicester, and a performance by the Launton Hand Bell Ringers.

Then singers and comedians took to the stage for Launton’s Got Talent, a spoof of the popular TV show.

Martin and Celia Evans, inset bottom, with Bob Roberts, right, were among those who took part.

Fete organiser Wendy Foster said: “I chased the Trotters’ car all around town to get it to come to the fete. We had about 1,000 people through the day.”

How much the fete made is still being worked out.
