Sir – I clearly must be talking to very different people from Anna Ireland who claimed in her letter (May 3) about the proposed new EF International Academy in Headington last week that it was ‘unfair to say that residents are opposed to our plans’ and even went so far as to suggest that there was ‘significant support for our development’. I am a resident and have talked to many of the neighbouring residents and members of each of the residents’ associations and can assure Anna Ireland that so far I have not met a single one who is supportive of their development.

Indeed, so great is the concern of local residents that we have taken the unprecedented step of forming an umbrella group and appointed a planning consultant to allow residents in the surrounding roads and lanes to most effectively express their opposition to the plans.

EF recently held the second of two consultation events with local residents. While they have made minor cosmetic changes to the original plan following resident feedback from the first meeting, the basic concept remains unchanged.

I believe that local residents are united in considering that EF’s plans for development are too intensive and that the mass and scale of the building is entirely inappropriate in a residential and conservation area.
