FIFTY girls are now believed to have been involved in a suspected child prostitution ring in Oxford.

It was originally thought 24 girls aged between 11 and 16 were involved but the number was revised to 38 last month.

Police yesterday said they had now spoken to 50 girls.

It also emerged yesterday that one of the six men charged in connection with the investigation had been released on bail and two more arrests had been made.

Twenty-six-year-old Kamar Jamil, of Aldrich Road, Summertown, was handed conditional bail by Amersham Crown Court on Tuesday, April 3.

He faces four charges of rape, two of arranging the prostitution of a child, one of making a threat to kill and one of possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Police also arrested a 39-year-old man on Tuesday on suspicion of grooming and he was bailed until Thursday, May 10. The man was out of the country when police made the other arrests.

A 40-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of grooming on Wednesday, but released without charge.

Oxford police commander, Acting Superintendent Chris Sharp, said more potential victims had come forward after hearing about the case.

Police arrested 13 men in raids across Oxford on Thursday, March 22, after investigating the suspected ring since May last year.

Six men were charged and appeared at Amersham Crown Court on Friday, March 30, for a preliminary hearing and were all remanded in custody.

Seven men were not charged but released to answer bail yesterday.

All answered bail and had their bail extended for a further eight weeks.
