THE Government needs to urgently look at the situation where some churches who are victims of lead thieves now have to pay VAT when they get the damage fixed.

It is understandable that members of the affected churches feel they are being whacked twice – once by the thieves and then by the taxman.

Governments don’t like to do U-turns but this needs addressing.

When even people in the Prime Minister’s loyal constituency complain, it is time to listen.
