HUNDREDS of friends and family of a 20-year-old who was found dead in a Witney lake turned out for his funeral yesterday.

John Godfrey known as ‘Little John’ to those that knew him, went missing after a party at Tar Lakes on the edge of the town on March 23.

He was found dead in the water five days later.

His funeral took place at Witney Congregational Church in Welch Way and he was buried at Windrush Cemetery, in Oxford Hill.

A Facebook group set up in his memory now has 360 members, who have been sharing dozens of messages, thoughts and pictures of their friend.

Toni Friend posted: “R.I.P Little John. My heart and thoughts are with everyone today as we say our final goodbyes to a great person.”

Charlotte Barrett posted: “Even though it will be such a sad day, everyone will have a big smile from one ear to the other thinking of all the good times with him and how much he made us laugh.”

It would have been Little John’s 21st birthday last Saturday.

An inquest into his death opened on April 2 and was adjourned pending a date for the hearing, where the cause of death will be established.
