YOU reported on the resignation of South Oxfordshire district councillor Christopher Quinton from the Conservative Party (Oxford Mail, March 27).

His resignation from the Conservative Party is, in itself, not a problem.

However, he says that he has now joined the UK Independence Party.

Why does he not stand for re-election as a result?

The people who elected him did not vote for this party, therefore should be given the chance to be able to vote for who they want instead.

It is typical of politicians to hang on to their positions.

You cannot just change your mind and say that you still represent the people who voted you in.
