SOME motorists were continuing to ignore appeals for calm over the the fuel crisis this morning - with one major Oxford petrol station likely to be shut all day.

Tesco at Cowley has just said that it would be closed until 7pm, when a new delivery is due.

Yesterday the fuel industry, politicians and police all tried to reassure motorists they did not need to make a run on petrol stations and panic buying was only making the situation worse.

But already this morning there were reports of queues at some service stations and others running dry of supplies.

A spokesman at Total in Garsington Road, Oxford, said: "At the moment my forecourt is rampacked and the cars are out on the road.

"We got a delivery last night but it won't last long."

The Esso at Faringdon said it had no fuel supplies, as did the Esso in Oxpens, Oxford.

A spokesman at Frilford Service Station said: "We got a delivery at about 2am. It won't last a day. It will probably go about 2pm."
