AS USUAL when perusing The Guide, I eagerly anticipate any mention of real ale outlets in the area. I was delighted then to see a review of the Rusty Bicycle had been undertaken.

My sense of joy was quickly doused by the article written by your Food and Drink correspondent.

There were two mentions that it was a ‘pub’, the first linking its predecessor with bar brawls and the second that it “was no ordinary pub”.

There was no mention of any beer at all. The fact that this a rare outlet for Arkells beers in Oxford was ignored, as were details of the range of excellent beers which they have on offer.

Having read the review, I would have come to the conclusion that your critic was eating in a restaurant and not a good, community, local pub which serves good food and beers.

As real ales are clearly of no interest to Ms MacAlister, how about dropping the reference to ‘drink’ in the heading for future reviews?
