VISITORS to an Oxford landmark found themselves part of a silent human orchestra.

Professional conductor Anthony Weeden waved his baton at passers-by in the grounds of the Sheldonian Theatre yesterday for a piece of performance art.

Artist Tamarin Norwood, who previously exhibited the piece at Tate Britain, explained: “I’ve asked him to conduct based on people’s movements.

“If they speed up, he speeds up — they’re causing his movements.

“At times you wonder who’s conducting who.

“People tend to watch for a bit at first, unsure what is happening, but then they soon twig.”
